Update from Nazareth
FON Friends and Donors,
As Executive Director of Friends of Nazareth, it breaks my heart to see the conflict continue to escalate in Israel. This weekend, Israel’s enemies took an even more determined course throughout all northern Israel that extended into Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus and the school we cherish and support, Nazareth Baptist School.Friends of Nazareth has been very cautious about sharing information and news concerning the events that began Sunday morning around 1 AM in Nazareth. Our purpose is not to be a news outlet but to provide updates about our friends in Israel who are being impacted. FON has been in constant communication with our contacts in Nazareth since the conflict began and we would like to share updates directly from them to you.
Najed Azzam, Chairman of Board for Nazareth Baptist School had this to say,
“Over the weekend in Nazareth, starting at around 1:00 AM, missiles were fired by Hezbollah and were successfully intercepted above the city. Debris from the intercepted missiles fell in various locations across Nazareth. By the grace of God, no lives were lost, and only one person suffered a minor injury. We are grateful for His protection and safety despite the alarming situation, though we expect another rough night ahead. We also want to express our thanks to all the donors and supporters who contributed to the safe room construction project at Nazareth Baptist School. We are now in the final stages of completing the safe rooms. Nazareth is currently at the highest alert level, which is why schools are conducting distance learning. Once the alert level drops to orange, only schools with safe rooms will be able to resume normal operations. We have just received news that the government is considering placing the entire country on high alert due to the possibility of widespread attacks against civilians. We deeply appreciate your prayers and continued support.”
Mimi Brookshire, FON Children’s and Families Ministry, shares,
“We are so thankful to each of you who have prayed and provided financial resources for the safe rooms. It is a huge responsibility for the school and staff to keep the precious NBS students safe during times like we are experiencing in Nazareth now. The safe rooms provide safety and peace of mind as the school carries out its mission of ‘Building the rising generation, glorifying Jesus Christ through distinctive education.’ Please share with those you know to pray for the current situation.”
To those who have given to support the safe rooms, Friends of Nazareth cannot thank you enough! You have given Nazareth Baptist School something that no other school in Nazareth has, which is the capacity to secure 100% of the student body in safe rooms. However, the task is not yet finished. As Najed Azzam said, there is still some work left to do in bringing the safe rooms to full completion. We are asking that each of you please consider giving to the safe room project. Get your churches, your small groups, your businesses, your friends, and your families involved in this push to Finish the Task. Below are two ways to give. Scan the QR code or click the I CAN HELP! button to give a gift of any amount to the safe room campaign. We urge each of you to act now and continue to keep the Gospel alive in our students, teachers, and faculty at Nazareth Baptist School.
For His Honor,
Tyson Lee
